The best thing about this is the size as I was having a hard time reading the small one that I have. The cooking guide is also very helpful that shows you the doneness of different types of meat. I was a bit confused and thought it was broken when I first opened it and thought it read 170 degrees. The instructions actually tell you that is where is should be and if you notice, that part of the needle has the red tip that when used will point toward the red range showing the doneness level. The actual temperature part of the needle is in the red when not in use. Made sense once it I saw that.

This is a good size to read and the temperature range is what I need for Chicken and beef. This will work for me great.While it is explained in the literature (I looked after receiving) the red tip is not temperature but how well the meat or poultry is cooked. While I understand it now it was confusing when I opened the package as it may be for someone else in my family when they initially use it.
