TempPro TempDip PLUS TP509 Digital Candy Thermometer — 8" Probe with Pot Clip

*** UPDATE ***I’ve now used this four times and the display would start blinking and come back after a few moments. The last cook it stopped working just as I finished. Well, it turns out it just needed a battery replacement. I suspect many that are having the same issue should just put a new battery in it. I just made another batch of pistachio brittle and the display worked perfectly.******************Very accurate and easy to use. I’ve made pistachio brittle and chocolate pots de creme using this thermometer and tested it against my thermopen which I know to be very accurate. The TempPro cycled temperatures quickly and was as accurate as the Thermopen.It’s also easy to detach from a very hot sauce pan. As you can see in the pictures, the display is quite large and bright. The only iffy thing was that briefly the display would flash on and off a few times while cooking. I’m unsure why, but it always came back on and worked fine. At this price point, this thermometer is a very good value.

This review is only based on the clip design. It’s great!! The thermometer point sets away from the side of the pan. I feel this will give a more accurate reading without having to hold it in position. This should really be emphasized in the product description.

What do I have to do to get the resident chef in this house to try to make candy?! I got her this awesome thermometer, and not having a candy thermometer was always her biggest excuse to not try to make chocolate or fudge or anything like that. This one seems prett good too! Its stupid easy to use, you just push the power button to turh it on. Its starts out on Fahrenheit, and you press it again to change it to Celsius. You press it a final time to turn it off. It seems pretty sensitive and read the kitchen's air temp right. Now the resident chef says she's not interested in making any candy. Ah well.

I love that this clip has a space in it to fit over the lip of pots. Sometimes I use a pot that has a lip on it and the pencil style clip could not possibly clip on. I also like how the screen on this lollipop style thermo is BIG. I can read the numbers without having to lean over the range. It has an auto-off feature. I think it's 10 minutes, I wasn't paying attention. Regardless if it's in boiling oil or sugar, it turns itself off. So plan accordingly. My sugars boil on average 24 minutes, so I wait until I'm more than halfway there before clicking this on. Saves battery too. The battery that goes in this is an A76 LR44

This little item is so well presented! The shipping box was oversized and lined with air pillows. The product box is hard cardboard with clear graphics and type. (I mention this as a graphic artist who notices details that make a product shine.) The interior contains a product-protective shell and instructions that are easy to understand. It even includes the battery! Overall, you can just tell this manufacturer cares! I used the ThermoPro immediately to make toffee. The temp printout is big and clear. The clip is adjustable, up and down the shaft for needed depth. As a first time user, I would have liked a tip that it's a good idea to clip this onto a cold pot and adjust the depth (so it doesn't touch the bottom) and push the clamp all the way down so the unit doesn't move side to side. This thermometer is worthy of a 5-Star rating and is quality that you can give as a gift for someone who might like to try making candy, or deep-fried goodies, with precision.

LOOK at the photos! The thermometer was a game changer! 1st photo was WITHOUT the thermometer and the 2nd photo is how homemade peanut brittle should look!! It's not expensive and look at the difference!! Homemade Christmas gifts this year thanks to the thermometer I just purchased!! Highly recommended!!

I use this to monitor the water temperature for various teas and in yogurt making. For tea I have tried taking a reading and again , holding it in place, and attaching it to the spout lid. Not sure how often I would do that, would hate to damage the lid. I've discovered that it balances perfectly within the spout without attaching it anywhere. Initially I'd make sure that the sensor wasn't touching the bottom of the pot but now I can eyeball it accurately. I really like the easy and reliable on /off switch, and that it mercifully doesn't beep. Previously i used another brand programmable meat thermometer to monitor the temperature of my tea water and milk. It was driving me crazy, intermittently beeping, couldn't mute the sound, difficult to shut off. Also it cannot be attached to our be balanced on the pots. It turns off by itself after a while, which is a good thing. It's easy enough to turn it back on if you need to. Not sure if the falling temperature of the milk triggered it, or if it's on a timer. I would recommend.

I haven't used it yet as it was just delivered.There's nothing worse than being in the middle of boiling sugar water and the thermometer breaks, hence having to rely on logic guessing.As per the picture, it's a few marks over 12" with a fairly large display.Wow!I wasn't expecting that size, but I love it all the better.Delivery was earlier than expected which was another plus.UPDATE:I started to use it, and I love the length of the thermometer.The display is large and can be tilted with an immediate reading progression.I like to have several thermometers on hand should one of them break.My purchase was worth the money.

I finally broke down and bought a digital thermometer and, I am glad I did. It's so much easier to read. This is my first digital thermometer so, I don't have much to compare it to. But, so far it's worked out great.

Got this for doing the final boil of maple syrup and was just trying it out on a small batch. Seems accurate and it's super easy to read the temp over an analog type candy thermometer. I just wish it didn't take a button type battery - I have rechargeable triple and double A's galore. When this battery dies it will be at an inopportune time and I'll have to run out to find one, and a single battery is never cheap. But I didn't read the product description as fully as I should have so this is on me. But as I said, it's accurate and easy to use and read.

I have been making cheese, yogurt, caramel, and homemade bread with a candy thermometer. This is soooo much better. The longer thinner probe makes it easy to check the temperature. It clips on the side of the pan which is really convenient when you have to stir continuously.

Larger than expected. But that's not an issue. Well made.

Used for first time making caramel yesterday. So far so good.

Used it today to make lemon curd for canning. Large display, fast , and accurate. Cleaned up easily. Worked great and my friend had the identical thermometer. Worked as intended...both of them.

Works great in a propane turkey fryer! I know when the oil is hot enough to cook but not hot enough to burn

This is great with a large digital display and long shaft for large pots and oven checking.

I use a pressure cooker to deep fry chicken. I use this unit (attached to a long pair of kitchen tweezers over the pot ) to monitor oil temp before placing the chicken in and sealing the pot and cover to pressure cook. I am very pleased with this unit.
