TempPro TP622 Lightning Instant-Read Meat Thermometer — Ultra-Fast, Waterproof

It seems absurd to spend $50, or even $100, on a meat thermometer. But if you want a good thermometer that works quickly and accurately, then the price is just a bullet you'll have to bite. I tested four meat thermometers: this one, the Thermopro Lightning ($45), the Thermopro TP620 ($30), the Thermopro TP19H ($15), and the Thermoworks ThermoPop 2 ($47). Some meat thermometers have some lag between the first displayed reading and the final accurate reading. With the TP19H, this lag is the most pronounced, as it takes between 10 and 20 seconds in many cases to reach an accurate reading. The TP620 and the ThermoPop 2, have less lag, but still take between 5 and 10 seconds to reach an accurate reading. The Thermopro Lightning, however, is a true instant-read thermometer, as it provides a fast initial reading, and the final accurate reading takes no more than two seconds to appear. The Lightning is the only one that I know that I can trust to quickly provide an accurate reading. I find this to be surprising given Thermoworks' reputation, but perhaps their Thermapen ONE, which I did not retest since it retails for $125, is what merits their reputation. For $45, however, the Thermoprop Lightning appears to be mightly close in performance to the much more expensive Thermoworks and is certainly better than the ThermoPop 2 that I tested. The ThermoPop doesn't even have a magnet or hook. All of these thermometers are waterproof under running water. I probably wouldn't put them in the dishwasher, however. The displays on all of these are fine, and I think that the Thermopro Lightning's display stands out quite well. If you're looking for a quality meat thermometer that will do exactly what you expect it to do, get the Lightning.

Instant read REALLY means it and the display is incredibly well contrasted, magnetic so it can go in any convenient are like on the face of the stove, definitely worth it!

I've been wanting an instant read meat thermometer for awhile, and this product seems to fit the bill. I used this right after I received it on a bunch of chicken thighs and legs I was grilling. Not all of the chicken was done at the same time, and using this thermometer allowed me to quickly check each piece for hitting the right temp (165 and above). I've also compared the temp readings to another "fancier" thermometer and found the readings to be identical. I like the fact that it is waterproof. It got left outside overnight and was covered in snow by morning. I dug it out, and it continues to work fine. I would recommend this for travel, as it is small and doesn't weigh much. It would be a great gift for anyone you knows that grills or roasts.

First, it comes with everything you need to get started, including a battery...AND the screwdriver you need to install the battery! The thermometer even has a quick reference for internal temps conveniently on the back, so if you have to look it up every time like I do, this is a great perk. It reads temperature incredibly fast and from what I can tell is very accurate as I haven't been overcooking the meats lately (to my family's joy). And if you use a smoker, you know maintaining that heat is a necessity so the faster we can get a temp on the meat in there the better. The temp display is super easy to read and the single pushbutton is very user friendly. Being able to place the probe at any angle made using it in different scenarios like the oven, the slow cooker, or the toaster oven, much easier. I love the auto shutoff on it so the battery is not drained when you hurriedly set it down and promptly forget about it. Highly recommend for yourself or a gift to that notorious over-cooker in your life!

I have several sticks from over the years, both high dollar and low, and all of them pretty much do a great job on a thicker meat and a slow cook in about 5 seconds of true time to get a good temp you can trust. The challenge to me has always been on a high heat filet cook under fire to get a rapid read under duress that doesn't take your finger hair off trying to get a 125-130 perfect filet of beef over wood and coals. I was impressed by the left hand ability as a left hander and the speed which it returned a result that was exactly where it needed to be for a perfectly cooked steak. And I love that it has a magnetic backing so I can leave it open and just pop it up over the rig it's needed for.Not sure I can agree that the "flash" is a true second, but it is Certainly not more than 2 seconds, and far superior to the others I have (inside and outside). I can recommend this for the quick cookers out there. Just being, Frank

I've been wanting one of these for years. This brand is known for accurate and fast thermometers and I can now vouch for that. It almost immediately registered every temperature that I threw at it. Certainly under a couple seconds. And it was accurate within a degree every time as well. Along with that, I love that it's simple and just works. There's no power button or weird settings. You just swing out the probe and it's on and ready. There's a Fahrenheit and Celsius button, but once you make your choice, you're unlikely to ever need it again. I also really like that there are rubber grips on the bottom. It's just reassuring to put something on the counter and know a small bump won't send it flying to wherever.

This thermometer far exceeded my expectations. It is extremely quick, accurate and takes all the guesswork out of BBQing. My wife also loves it for indoor cooking. A game changer!

I've owned several instant-read thermometers over the years, and this is easily the best one I've used. The biggest reason is the speed. This is truly an "instant read" thermometer. When you had is in your BBQ Pit over had coals having a thermometer that will give you a fast accurate reading is a most and this one does just that. The display is easy to read in both direct sunlight and at night. The magnet lets you hang it just about anywhere. I wish I invested in this sooner instead of all of the cheap pieces of junk I bought before it.

I had a Thermpro before but I broke it. I got a cheap instant read thermometer but it was slow. Thermpro is fast.
I bought on for myself, my daughter, and my 18 year old grandson who is in college.

I grill and smoke meats a lot, and a meat thermometer is a must have to tell the temperature of your meat.I’ve had other less expensive meat thermometers in the past that worked OK, but was in need of a replacement.There were a lot of recommendations on this one so I decided to try it out.Simple design, turn it on, stick it in the meat and it displays the temperature on a bright, easy to read display. Great size to handle to be able to stick the probe in meat.There’s no waiting for it to read the temperature, it really is instant read.Magnetic back makes it great to stick to the side of the grill (not somewhere that gets hot) or on the fridge when not in use ready to be used when needed.You can certainly find less expensive meat thermometers, but not one that is instant read.I definitely recommend this product!

This ThermoPro Instant Read thermometer is fantastic. It gets a temperature reading in about half a second — seriously fast — so I can check steaks, chicken, and even baked goods without waiting forever. The numbers are easy to read, and the probe is sturdy and feels high quality.It’s simple to use right out of the box, and the quick response means I’m not overcooking anything anymore. It’s small enough to keep in a drawer but accurate enough that I grab it every time I cook.If you want a reliable meat thermometer that gives you fast answers and helps you cook with confidence, this one is excellent.

High quality, works very well. Very fast temp reading. I actually love how the display flips based on the orientation you’re holding it, it’s more convenient than it sounds. The auto on and off is really nice too. Also, i didn’t know this was possible, but somehow the temp display looks HD, very bright and crystal clear to read.

I love this instant read thermometer. It's a huge help with my cooking. Next purchase will be the wireless probes.

First impressions are it seems well made and I love the larger size and display. The display is very easy to read at all angles and the rotating is a nice touch!
